Practice Philosophy

Create Space

You need room to stretch and grow. Creating space can be making boundaries about what you will and won't accept from yourself and others, cleaning clutter from your rooms or schedule, or just giving yourself permission to have downtime. Slow Paths Wellness coaching programs emphasize making room for growth to happen.

Relish Change

Change is necessary for life. Creating change yourself makes chemicals in your brain that lead to healthier physiology than feeling forced into change.

Chinese medicine sees your body and mind as parts of a constantly changing system, working together for balance. Helping you find and maintain healthy balance in the midst of change is what Slow Paths Wellness is all about.

Celebrate Authenticity

"The degree to which we live in truth is the degree to which we are free."

--Geri Scazzero, The Emotionally Healthy Woman

To celebrate authenticity is to be yourself--living by your beliefs, honoring your needs and desires, and living in the reality of each moment. Celebrating who you are in this moment will lead to more joy and health. Slow Paths Wellness can help!

Professional Care

I've studied health since I was a child, scouring my school library for books about herbs used by the Original Peoples in Virginia. I began my formal health education in 1999 and graduated from the AOMA School of Integrative Medicine with classes on Traditional Chinese Medicine, including Asian medical theory, acupuncture, clinical herbology, three Asian bodywork forms, tai chi, medical qigong, as well as modern medical studies in pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, and other classes to give me the knowledge to bridge ancient and modern medicine for you.

Over the past two decades in practice I've edited publications from China on cancer treatment, and extensively studied women's health, autoimmune conditions, endocrine disorders, brain function, trauma, PTSD, anxiety, digestive disorders, and other conditions associated with chronic illness and pain. I'm also trained in functional medicine, mindfulness education, health and life coaching.

Along the way, I've done extensive personal work in cultivating mindfulness, compassion, and self-care. I call my clinic Slow Paths Wellness because I believe it is a gradual accumulation of small changes over time that make lasting change possible for wellness. I'm a cancer survivor, and have worked through my own chronic pain and chronic illness. I know the importance self-care liberally seasoned with self-compassion. I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with you to experience wellness wherever you are on your health journey.

I am nationally certified in acupuncture (NCCAOM), Chinese herbal medicine (NCCAOM), and health coaching (NSHC). I hold international certification in mindfulness (The Academy of Modern Applied Psychology) and life coaching (Auspicium). I have completed Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP), the flagship course of The Institute of Functional Medicine, and studied with Dan Siegel in his Interpersonal Neurobiology course. More importantly, I have 20 years of clinical experience as a practitioner of Chinese medicine, treating people with conditions ranging from bad colds to Crohn's disease and many other illnesses--Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome, epilepsy, depression, anxiety, Parkinson's disease, neuropathy, diabetes, toxicity from medication side effects (such as being "floxxed" by fluoroquinolones), and "the doctor says I'm fine but I can't function." I have dedicated my life to learning about wellness and helping other people find their own Slow Path to feeling well.
